What can I do to prolong the life of my SolaPool Cover?
Ensure the chlorine level never exceeds 3ppm (3 parts chlorine to 1 million parts water). This level is shown as normal or ideal on your test kit.
The level of 2 to 2.5ppm provides the health department recommended level of sanitation and guarantees your family’s safety.
Run your filter during the hottest part of the day—10am to 4pm.
Normally, when your filter is installed the service person will assume you don’t have a solar pool cover and set up the filter and sanitation device accordingly.
Chlorine levels in the pool will increase due to the reduction in chlorine evaporation and your water will test higher.
Avoid this higher concentration by reducing the input of chlorine into the pool by about 50%.
If you manually add chlorine put less in, if you employ a salt chlorinator, turn down the amp-meter.
A secondary reason to run your filter during the hottest is for water circulation.
The sun is only heating the top layer of the pool, which gets hotter and hotter, while the water beneath remains cool.
Add high chlorine concentration to this heat, and the effect of UV rays, and it’s the worst possible environment for your swimming pool cover.
By setting up your pump to run during this hot part of the day, you can relieve this heat and get the chlorine and heat evenly distributed through the pool instead of building up just beneath the cover.

How do I remove debris off the Cover?
With a cover employed, less dirt becomes waterlogged and airborne debris is free to blow off the pool again with the next wind.
When we install we leave a flap that corresponds with the skimmer box opening, this allows dirt to be hosed into the skimmer when the pumps running, alternately a broom or dustpan and brush will remove it.

How much free heat can I get?
The water temperature will rise by 8 - 10ºC above the average ambient temperature measured over about a week.
A Pool can often reach 30 degrees during the summer months, this is possibly too warm, if this is the case leave the cover off for a time to allow the pool to cool down to a more appropriate level.
top
What should I do If it gets too hot?
If the air temperature exceeds 35ºC, remove the cover and place it in a protected, cooler spot. This will allow the pool to cool down.
top
Do I have to cover all of the water?
No, not for heating efficiency, provided the pool is 80%-90% covered it will heat effectively, however, dirt and debris can enter the pool. An exposed edge may also allow the wind to get under the blanket and lift it off the pool surface.

Is the SolaPool Cover easy to handle?
If no roller / reel system is employed, a cover can be a large piece of fabric to handle single handed.
Fold the blanket as per a paper fan in a concertina fashion all the way along its length, then fold both sides to the middle and store out of direct sunlight. (Under a solid cover / not shadecloth)

Is A Roller System essential?
Whilst its not essential, employing a roller system makes using you pool cover easier, faster and more convenient. It will also ensure safe and easy storage of the cover.

What about when my SolaPool Cover is off the pool?
For those with a Roller System, utilize the protective overcover everytime you recover the cover.
It is essential that if you don’t have a Roller System, the cover must be removed and placed completely in the shade. A blanket must never be left in the sun when folded or on a roller uncovered.
This will bring the blanket up to the temperature at which it is laminated, the air inside the bubble expands forcing the 2 sheets apart, and causing what is known as delamination. If repeated consistently it will destroy the cover.
top
How is it held onto the water?
Provided it is fitted correctly the cover should stay in place under most normal conditions.
The effect of the high surface area of the cover and its unique bubble arrangement creates high surface tension, therefore preventing it from blowing off the pool. The effect of the wind over the cover also provides down force holding it onto the water.
But, if the cover rises above the coping due to incorrect installation or a high water level due to winter rain etc. air pressure (wind) will lift the cover from the pool surface.
